MYSTERY BAG



MATERIALS:

1. A washable drawstring bag which you would fill with common objects

the child would know the name of.

2. Tray or mat.

PREPARATION:

1. Work with previous tactile exercises.

PRESENTATION:

1. Invite the child.

2. Unfold the mat at the table or place the tray on the table.

3. Remove the bag from the shelf and take to the table.

4. Remove the objects from the bag, naming each one as you place it on the mat or in the tray.

5. Rename each object as you replace them in the bag, one by one.

6. Place your hand in the bag and feel an object.

7. Name the object and then withdraw it from the bag and place it in the tray/on the mat.

8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until all objects have been taken out of the bag.

9. Ask the child if he would like to feel the objects.

10. Invite the child to repeat the exercise.

11. Return the objects to the bag and the bag to the shelf.

1. Development of the stereognostic sense.

2. Developing the concept that objects are real even when they cannot be seen.

3. Memory development.

INDIRECT AIMS:

1. Language development.

1. Feeling without seeing.

1. Visual.

2. Another child or the teacher.

LANGUAGE:

1. The names of the objects.

VARIATIONS:

1. Matching pairs in the bag.

2. Using a blindfold.

3. Naming an object and then reaching in to find it.

4. Matching an object from the bag to a pictorial representation.

5. Putting classroom objects in the bag.

EXTENSIONS:

1. Bringing out categories from the bag - sorting.

2. Matching like objects.
